Another summer and yet another blockbuster. But this is what summer are for right? Prometheus has landed and with all the hype thats surrounded it but, I’m afraid it just doesn't live up to it. Generating much excitement since its release since it was announced that it will have the some DNA from Scotts magnificent Alien.
Set in the year 2093, two archeologists have found a drawings of a star constellation that humans worship, and a clue that Aliens from a distant planet may have visited earth. Both actors playing the archeologists Dr Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and Dr Charlie Holloway (Logan-Marshall Green) are well cast as is the ever pleasing Michael Fassbender who plays the creepy android David. They cast head-on, on a voyage into space to locate our origins.
Fast-forward to 2093 and Prometheus is on its voyage financed by the Billionaire company The Weyland Corporation. The crew have been frozen for almost two-years, the only one awake is the android david who models himself on Peter O'toole's character from The 1962 film Lawrence of Arabia. Also on board the ship is the fiesty hard-headed Meredith Vickers (Charlize Theron) in charge of keeping the crew intact. The film plays out like a long bore and their are not enough highlights to point out, one thing i will mention is the score, how many times do we need boring orchestral music floating in the air every time we see the ship descend from space to land or when the characters hurry back to their ship. Apart from our boring characters one does stand out immensely, the impeccable Michael fassbender as the near perfect android David. He walks like a robot, talks like a robot, but doesn't have the soul of one. The film does have some stunning visuals, notably the opening with a shot of a planet some where far in the solar system.
Promethues at times, is a bore to watch and nothing saves it, not even its stunning visuals. With a not so good script and characters that we don’t care about, it really should take more than stunning visuals to wet our appetite. A lot of talk has been wether or not this film will be better than Alien, is it? No.
