BATMAN: YEAR ONE Review

Frank Miller's
BATMAN: YEAR ONE review

In the summer of 2005 Batman Begins was released worldwide in theatres, receiving widespread critical acclaim, establishing Christopher Nolan as a director to be reckoned with, as well as breathing life into the widely thought dead/murdered Batman franchise that the "studios" had themselves caused with the 1998 Bat-nippled travesty of "Batman and Robin", a film that George Clooney to this day apologises for, as well as everyone else who worked on it (a rant for another day I fear).

Anna Karenina: Trailer

This is hardly news, as the trailer has been out for quite some time. Even so, it is still important that we discuss it.

Hayate the Combat Butler (Hayate no Gotoku)

I'm an Otaku. People tell me this all the time. I love anime, I live it, breathe it, draw it and dream about it. The only problem with the world is that there isn't enough of it. The more I watch it, the more particular my taste becomes. It's comparable to the average man's taste for wine.

First trailer for Dredd is Released.

When I was younger I had the forgettable experience of watching Sylvester Stallones' Judge Dredd, I do however have fun memories of my friend struggling to beat the game on SNES.  In this reboot the Judge has to climb a tower filled with badies in order to take out the drug kingpin on the top floor. Its been a while since we saw the first pictures of Karl Urban as the Judge in 2010 and during that time a great movie with a similar premise, The Raid was released. Will this result in a mistrial for the Judge? Check out the trailer after the break.

New trailer for Black Dynamite Animated Series

In 2010 I got a round house kick to the face in the outrageously fun Blaxploitation Parody Afro Dynamite starring Michael Jai White, the black Chuck Norris and Gamble from TDK. Now after releasing an 11 minute Pilot last year Cartoon Networks' Adult Swim has released a Trailer for the series pack with a load of Sticking it to the man, Trailer after the Break.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier

Tom Clancy's
GHOST RECON: FUTURE SOLDIER
(xbox360, ps3, pc)

In a world thats saturated by run and gun first person shooters, where you are pitted against faceless, infinite and sometimes even idiotic enemies, its nice to see a company carve its own bullet riddled path into the world of "simulated shooters".

Guillermo del toro's Pinocchio

Guillermo Del Toro is a man I highly admire, his films have shown us tales of such vivid beauty.
Acclaimed for his his dark fairy tales and vicious characters Guillermo del toro has grown into that category of top directors who bring us works of art that breed endless imagination and creativity.
In these concept art of his upcoming film Pinocchio that EW recently published we see a darker pinocchio or atleast I hope for one, than that of disney's 1940 film which every child has (or should) watch. Del Toro's adaptation will be in 3D stop-motion. This feature starts Filming in 2013.

Its been a while since Robert Zemeckis has been in the directors chair. I for one am glad to see him back. He returns with Denzel washington at the helm as a pilot who has some complications with landing his aircraft that crash lands after a mid air catastrophe, at first washingstons character his hailed as a hero, but heads are raised as people trouble to find out what really happened.

The film also stars Don Cheadle and John Goodman.

Django Unchained Trailer

The new Django Unchained trailer has finally hit online. The trailer itself looks amazing however I would have liked to see more of Di Caprios character Calvin Candie, no fuss though im sure in the next couple of trailers and TV spots well get more of a glimpse of him.

Starring Jamie Foxx the story follows the lead character Django (with a silent D) as he is captured by bounty Hunter Dr. King Schultz to hunt down a bunch of low life criminals eventually bringing them to rescue Django's wife from a plantation owner known as Calvin Candie (Leonardo Di Caprio).

Snow White and The Huntsmen Review

Snow white and huntsman has a revisionist take on the original tale. It reinvents imagination and tale to an extreme effect. With stunning visuals that keep it afloat for most of the film, the story lacks heavily in the script department with director Rupert Sanders failing to keep us interested in a story that really should have been better.

Prometheus Review

Photo from Imdb.com
Another summer and yet another blockbuster. But this is what summer are for right? Prometheus has landed and with all the hype thats surrounded it but, I’m afraid it just doesn't live up to it. Generating much excitement since its release since it was announced that it will have the some DNA from Scotts magnificent Alien

Prometheus:First Thoughts

Photo from Imdb

Over 30 years ago Ridley Scott redefined the science fiction/horror genre with the suspenseful and terrifying Alien (1979). While not a direct prequel Prometheus definitely contains strands of Alien DNA and aims to answer some of the questions from its predecessor, but unfortunately it suffers by raising more questions than it answers.

Behind the scenes look at Only God Forgives

New stills have appeared of Nicholas Winding Refn's Only God Forgives. After rating Drive as the number one film for 2011 im eagerly awaiting this follow-up from Winding Refn. The story centers around a former boxer who kills a cop 10 years previous from when the film is set and went on the run to Thailand. He now manages a thai-boxing club. After his brother is killed, he goes to avenge his death, and presumably raise hell. There is no release date as of yet, however some have hinted at a possible late 2012 release (hopefully well see it at a festival some time this year, im thinking toronto?)

Anyway Here are some behind the scenes photos:

Moonrise Kingdom Review

Photo from imdb.com

A panning shot, a few jump cuts and a whole lot of tracking, all in the first 5 minutes of the film, nothing seems clustered in this interesting take on young romance from the brilliant Wes Anderson. Moonrise Kingdom is a gem to watch, perhaps his most passionate film yet. After having watched the fantastic the Darjeeling Limited and the Fantastic Mr Fox, i was eager to see what Mr Anderson would do next with his subtle filmmaking style.

The film itself centers on to young lovers in a more loving setting, 1965 to be precise. Newcomers Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward play our protagonists Sam and Suzy. The two are unpopular in their private circles but smart in their own right. After an encounter in a school play that breeds love at first sight, the two run away together far into the woods leaving behind a semi-worried search party. it wont all go wrong though as Sam is a scout learning how to do things that ahem..scouts do. Suzy on the other hand is our princess totally embroiled in her new loves bad boy image.

Michael Haneke wins Palm d'OR

Photo from imdb.com

Michael Haneke has won his second Palm D’or for Love.  The narrative focuses on an elderly couple, Anne and Georges, who are retired music teachers with a daughter who lives abroad. One day Anne suffers a stroke which paralyses her on one side of the body. Im anticipating the film like nothing else. His last two films have been in my honest opinion, masterpieces, and this looks like another. Trailer after the jump.

Men In black 3 Review

Photo from imdb.com

The third installment of Men In Black takes place fourteen years after the first, although not really looking forward to a sequel, I must say i had a lot of fun watching this. The third film does justice to the first although the concept is a whole lot different. With a time-traveling plot the story focuses heavily on the wry but sophisticated Agent K (Tommy Lee-Jones and the street-wise Agent J (Will Smith) as they hunt down aliens living on earth (or New York City)

Boris the animal (Jemaine Clement) the stories main villain has just escaped from a maximum security prison in the moon. A one armed ogre looking thing, with a palm that you wouldnt want to be near, it’s soon apparent that he’s looking for Agent K. The man who shot off his arm. Agent J then has to travel back in time to stop this.

Skyfall Trailer

Photo from imdb.com

Today Sony Pictures released the teaser trailer of the twenty third Bond outing was released. Daniel Craig as always looks terrific as Bond, but cinematography of Roger Deakings also stands out. Deakings decided to use the Arri Alexa Studio as the main camera for this production and the results are the best i have seen from the camera yet. Don't believe me? have a look for yourself.
